Top Ranked Bayern Munchen Plays Greuther Furth

In a Bundesliga match, the top-ranked FC Bayern Munchen will take on Greuther Furth at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, January 19th. Bayern Munchen, one of the top teams of the Bundesliga, is the heavy favorite to win because they have beat Greuther Furth every single game they have played. Their last meeting, on August 25, 2012, was a blow out for Bayern Munich. They won 3-0, which shows how much of a favorite they actually are.

The starting goalie for Greuther Furth is Wolfgang Hesl. He has been starting for the past three Bundesliga matches, ahead of the original starter Max Grun. Earlier in the 2009 season, Grun had signed a large contract with Furth until 2014.

Greuther Furth will have a difficult time with their line-up at this game because a lot of their top players are injured or out on suspension. Edgar Prib and Heinrich Schmidtgal are leading starters but are both out for injury. Greuther Furth’s manager, Mike Buskens, is also suspended. Their current, healthy goal leader Zoltan Stieber has 3 goals for the season.

Bayern Munchen will have a great starting line-up, since a majority of their players are back from injury. Not only do they have healthy players, Bayern Munchen is looking to win the league for their manager, Jupp Heynckes, who will be leaving after this season.

Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic are both top scorers for Bayern Munchen, both tallying up 9 goals for the season so far. In their past 17 games, Manuel Neuer, has started every game as goalie. He has made a total of 39 saves this season. Also, Bastian Schweinsteiger will be playing as midfielder, who has made 4 goals this season.

Bayern Munchen is leading the Bundesliga with 42 points. They are ahead of the second place, Bayer Leverkusen, by 9 points. Greuther Furth, who is in last place and in the relegation zone, is currently tied in last place with FC Augsburg. If Greuther Furth were to win this game, it would be their first win in their past 15 games.
