FC Barcelona Looks for Redemption against Osasuna

This Sunday, January 27th, FC Barcelona will take on Osasuna in their second league meeting at Camp Nou. FC Barcelona is the heavy favorite to win this match not only because they are taking one of the lowest teams in the league, but also because they are a great goal scoring team.

Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona leads the league in goals, with 29 on the season. This is 11 more goals than the two players tied in second. Messi also leads the team in the goal category by a long shot. The next highest amount is Cesc Fabregas, who has only six. Messi has scored a goal in the past 15 games, but there is a possibility of him not continuing this streak at today’s game since there have been talks of him resting for a minor injury.

The usual FC Barcelona starting line-up will not be together, even if Messi does play, because Gerard Pique recently received a red card in their only loss against Real Sociedad for drawing two separate yellow cards on fouls he committed.

Although Osasuna is in the relegation zone, this team may just have a chance. Recently, FC Barcelona suffered a 3 – 2 loss against middle-ranked Real Sociedad ending their perfect season. Osasuna also had a 0 – 0 draw a couple weeks ago against the third-ranked team, Real Madrid, and a 3 – 2 win last week against the last place Deportivo La Coruna.

Osasuna’s leading scorer, Enrique Sola Clemente (nicknamed Kike Sola), will be a new face to FC Barcelona this season. In their prior league meeting in August, where Barcelona prevailed by a small 1-point margin, Kike Sola was an unused substitute. Kike Sola has 5 goals for the season, but he will be the player to watch from Osasuna in this game.

With a win by Osasuna, they will pull out of the relegation zone and into 16th place. For Barcelona, the win isn’t as crucial since they have an 8 point lead in front of Athletico Madrid, but that win can make the team more comfortable at the top.
